Webbing Applications: Polypropylene

October 14, 2015 by Kerri Karel Leave a Comment

A Great Choice

Polypropylene webbing is inexpensive and strong, making it a great choice for many industrial and retail applications. These include backpacks, luggage, medical devices, life jackets, bags, tents, tarps, shopping carts, hunting/fishing equipment, pool covers and many more.

polypropyleneAdvantages of polypro webbing:

  • Mildew resistance
  • Low stretch
  • Easy to clean
  • Does not absorb water
  • Available in a wide range of colors
  • Less expensive than other types of webbing

Polypro is also extremely color fast since it is made of extruded colored polypro rather than being dyed after it is woven. Since it can be recycled it is also Eco-friendly. This webbing is inferior to nylon and polyester in regard to strength, abrasion resistance, and UV resistance. However, its cost effectiveness makes it appealing to manufactures for appropriate applications.

Because polypro has less abrasion resistance and strength than polyester and nylon, it is not a good choice for load bearing or lifting applications like lifting slings or tie down straps. Nylon and polyester webbing are more appropriate for heavy duty applications like these.  This webbing is more appropriate for light-duty applications. Please contact your sales or customer service rep to see if polypropylene might be a good choice for your specific applications.

TN Webbing Products supplies three types of polypropylene:

  • Woven Polypropylene
  • Monofilament
  • Slit Film
